DESIGNING THE POTAGE GARDEN
After measuring up the area the new garden was going into a rough layout was devised, which you can see in the photo here. The idea was to have an English feel to the garden that was also manageable. The grass paths though higher in maintenance are cheeper than stone or brick paths and also produce grass clippings for the garden. The size of the beds were dictated by the space as well as the need to reduce path area rather than ease of being able to reach into the centre of each. They ended up being 4m x 4m. Path size of 1m was dictated by the width of our mower cut and the circle gardens were dictated by the tuning circle of the mower. This plan was then modified to include another 8 beds which you can see HERE in the planting layout.
